PBS Program Name:
NHMRC 22/23 1.1 Health and Medical Research
Grant Program:
Investigator Grants
Grant Activity:
Decipher interleukin-21’s biochemical interactions and engineer next-generation immunotherapies
Purpose:
Chronic infections and cancer induce the exhaustion of the immune system. Therapies that prevent such exhaustion provide extraordinary results to some patients with cancer, but the majority show insufficient responses. I recently identified a novel mechanism that regulates the function of a molecule, which centrally controls immune cell exhaustion. This project will characterise such mechanism and develop next-generation therapies to target this new immune regulatory mechanism.
