The Great Australian Biodiversity Challenge, 2019
Purpose:
This challenge, open to all Australians, draws attention to an urgent aspect of managing our climate change–induced biome – lack of comprehensive data on biodiversity – and aims to address it by engaging people from all walks of life to participate in a competition that's fun, locally relevant and inspirational, while gathering relevant and verified biodiversity data. Australians will join regional science hub 'teams' in the digital world, and submit sightings of wildlife – both plants and animals. Submissions are verified by experts, feedback is sent to the submitter, and data is shared with the Atlas of Living Australia. The ' team' with the highest eventual score wins the challenge.
