Grant Activity:
Replace Fluorescent Playing Court Lights With Energy Saving LED Lights
Purpose:
The Ellinbank Badminton Club Inc. will replace our current double fluorescent lights, with Energy efficient defused batten LED's. We currently have two courts, each court has 24 double, 80 watt fluorescent batten lights. These lights are located at right angles to the court and need to be defused heavily to reduce glare to a manageable level. The current lights will be removed, and replaced with 24, 40 watt LED defused lights per court. The new lights will run parallel to the court and be off set to the side, to provide a light pattern that illuminates the shuttle but does not interfere with the view of the flying shuttle. The lights will provide a more uniform, flicker free, brighter light than the current fluorescent lights and will use less than half of the energy to run. The new lights will illuminate the playing area to a higher level than the current fluorescent lights and will conform with the guidelines as set out by Badminton Australia for competition Badminton.
The old lights will be removed by a registered electrician and he will be assisted by club volunteers when applicable. The registered Electrician will then install new light tracks so that new cabling can be run to the lights, these tracks will also provide a frame to mount the new LED lights to. The electrician will also supply and install new switches for these circuits. The lights will be installed to illuminate the playing surface and adjusted to provide the correct lumens as set out by Badminton Australia. All electrical work will be carried out by a qualified electrician and a letter of compliance will be provided at the end of the work. The old Fluorescent lights will be taken to our local shire recycling depot. Here they will be treated for safe disposal and the glass and metals will be recycled. The project works will be carried out during the summer months, which coincides with the break between our competition seasons and school holidays.
