Purpose:
Abdominal surgery is the most frequent major surgical procedure performed in developed countries. Complications after surgery are strongly associated with poor patient recovery and increased healthcare costs. Patient education before surgery including the importance of deep breathing, oral care, physical activity, nutrition and pain management show promise in reducing these complications. We aim to establish this innovative management into routine care and measure its effectiveness.
