Program Name:
Remote Jobs and Economic Development program
Description:

The Government is investing over $950 million through the Remote Jobs and Economic Development (RJED) program to create 6,000 new jobs in remote Australia by 2030. The Government has delivered over 3,000 jobs to remote communities. Round 4 will continue to invest in new jobs for remote communities.

The RJED program was developed in partnership with First Nations people and will continue to provide meaningful jobs with fair pay and conditions.

The NIAA proposes a competitive grant process, expected to open by November 2026 and close in March 2027, for employers across Remote Australia Employment Service (RAES) regions.

Eligible employers will be able to apply for a grant to create new jobs, including access to the Community Jobs and Business Fund (CJBF). The CJBF can cover some costs directly related to the creation of RJED jobs, such as equipment, assets, minor capital works, supervision and training. See the NIAA website for current RJED projects.

Successful applicants will receive grant funding for wages at the relevant award wage (or the National Minimum Wage where no award applies), plus superannuation to employ RAES participants, those eligible for RAES, and young people. Applicants must provide evidence the proposed jobs are supported by the local community and aligned to community priorities. Jobs must be new and not supported through other government funding.
