The Australian Government’s Specialist Training Program (STP) seeks to extend vocational training for non-GP specialist registrars (trainees) into settings outside traditional metropolitan teaching hospitals, including regional, rural, remote and private facilities. The program aims to improve the quality of the future specialist workforce by providing trainees with exposure to a broader range of healthcare settings. STP also aims to have a positive influence on future workforce distribution.

The purpose of this Grant Opportunity is to continue funding STP program activities under current funding arrangements with the participating specialist medical colleges that expire on 31 December 2021. Activities under the STP will be funded for a further four calendar years from 2022 to 2025 (or five financial years 2021-22 to 2025-26).
