These Grant Guidelines set out:

• The objectives of the Special Research Initiative for Australian Society, History and Culture grant opportunity;
• the grant support available;
• the eligibility and assessment criteria;
• how grant applications are considered and selected;
• how grantees will be monitored and evaluated; and
• responsibilities and expectations in relation to the grant opportunity. 

Objectives of this grant opportunity are to:

• support excellent research into Australian society, history and culture as described in section 2.15 of the Grant Guidelines; and
• build Australian research capacity in this area by supporting researchers of the highest international standing as well as foster high-quality postdoctoral researchers.

The intended outcomes of the grant opportunity are to:

• advance understanding into the formation, development and standing of Australian society, history and culture; and
• increase research capacity in Australia.
