Description:

The Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) Programme supports industry-led collaborations between industry, researchers and the community.

Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) grants support medium to long term industry-led collaborations, of up to 10 years, to develop important new technologies, products and services. CRC grants solve industry problems and deliver tangible outcomes.

It aims to:

  • improve the competitiveness, productivity and sustainability of Australian industries, especially where Australia has a competitive strength and in line with government priorities
  • deliver outcomes in line with government priorities, which encourage and enable small and medium enterprise (SME) participation in collaborative research
  • foster high quality research to help solve industry-identified problems through industry-led and outcome focussed collaborative research partnerships between industry entities and research organisations.
Eligibility:

CRC grants provide successful CRC applicants with access to grant funds for up to 10 years for collaborations from industry, research and community sectors to solve industry-identified problems.

CRC applications will be submitted on behalf of a group of applicants who have agreed to collaborate.

A CRC must have at least one Australian industry organisation and one publicly funded Australian research organisation amongst the participants.

Applicants must demonstrate the ability to at least match (in cash or in-kind) the level of CRC Programme Funding requested and provided.

As a minimum, CRCs will undertake all of the following activities:

  • medium to long term industry-led high quality collaborative research to solve industry-identified problems and deliver outcomes consistent with Government Priorities, improving the competitiveness, productivity and sustainability of Australian industries;
  • an industry-focused education and training programme that must include, but is not limited to, a PhD programme that complements the research programme and that increases engagement, technology development, skilled employees and R&D capacity with Industry Entities;
  • implementation of strategies that build the R&D capacity with SMEs; and
  • deployment of research outputs and encouragement of take-up by Industry.

Where relevant, collaboration formalised through a memorandum of understanding with one or more relevant Growth Centres to share knowledge, experience and resources to achieve common goals.

CRCs are encouraged to collaborate with international organisations and/or with companies with global supply chains and access to international markets, to provide national benefits to Australia.
