The Heath Workforce Scholarship Program (HWSP) was announced as part of the 2015-16 Budget Measure Streamlining Health Workforce Scholarships. The program provides financial support through the provision of scholarship and bursary payments to health professionals committed to service in rural and remote areas. The aim of the program is to improve access to health services needed in remote and rural areas by supporting an increase in skills, capacity and/ or scope of practice.

This is a targeted non-competitive grant opportunity and Health Workforce Queensland (HWQ) Limited will be invited to apply on behalf of all Rural Workforce Agencies (RWAs). HWQ will continue to work with RWAs to administer the HWSP.

The grant opportunity provides funding over 3 financial years from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2023,with activities expected to conclude on 30 June 2027, to ensure health professionals remain supported for the duration of their study, including consideration of part time arrangements and deferrals.

The HWSP Grant Opportunity provides scholarships and bursaries to help health professionals in rural and remote Australia retain and enhance their skills, capacity and scope of practice in the fields of medicine, nursing and allied health in order to target services to rural and remote areas where they are most needed.
