Description:

The Australian Biological Resources Study (ABRS) National Taxonomy Research Grant Programme (NTRGP) provides grants for taxonomic research. Grants are awarded for research projects where the primary aim is to undertake taxonomic research on the Australian biota or to develop products that aid in the dissemination of taxonomic information.

The Research Grants stream provides support to Postdoctoral Fellows and established career researchers to undertake research relevant to the taxonomy and systematics of the Australian biota.

Research Grants of $10,000, $35,000, $70,000 or $90,000 (GST exclusive) per annum are available, as well as a $90,000 (GST exclusive) per annum Postdoctoral Fellowship Grant.

Eligibility:

Principal Investigator

  • The Principal Investigator on an application must be an Australian researcher.  Applications from overseas researchers as Principal Investigator will not be accepted.

Postgraduate Students as Principal Investigator

  • Postgraduate students are not able to apply as Principal Investigator. The ABRS funds scholarships for Honours, Masters and PhD students through the Capacity-Building Grants stream.

Joint Investigators

  • A Joint Investigator is anyone else who is making a major contribution to the proposed project, including a Postdoctoral Fellow who is to be employed partially or fully by the grant.
  • Joint Investigators can be Australian or overseas researchers.

Postdoctoral Fellowship Applicants

  • Postdoctoral Fellows can apply for a Research Grant as Principal Investigator or for a Postdoctoral Fellowship Grant as Principal Investigator. Applications may include their own postdoctoral salary. Also, Postdoctoral Fellows may be included as part of a team applying for a Research Grant.
