Description:

 

The Australian Biological Resources Study’s National Taxonomy Research Grant Programme - provides grants for taxonomic research.

Grants are awarded for research projects where the primary aim is to undertake taxonomic research on the Australian biota or to develop products that aid in the dissemination of taxonomic information. The programme also supports projects that build Australian taxonomic capacity.

The Capacity Building stream focuses on support for training and/or recruitment of taxonomists, especially for research on critical taxonomic groups.  Honours Scholarships, Masters Scholarships and Research Training Program Top-Up Grants are available. Non-salaried Researcher Grants are also available and are offered on an annual basis to allow the completion of projects by non-salaried researchers.

 

Eligibility:
  • Applications for Honours Scholarships, Masters Scholarships and RTP Top-Ups are accepted on behalf of Students who hold Australian citizenship, or have permanent Australian residency status.
  • Applications for Honours Scholarships, Masters Scholarships and RTP Top-Ups are accepted on behalf of students only.  Supervisors are not able to apply.
  • The proposed research for Honours Scholarships, Masters Scholarships and RTP Top-Upsmust be undertaken at an Australian institution.
  • Applications for Non-salaried Researcher Grants will be accepted on behalf of Australian citizens only.
  • Researchers applying for a Non-salaried Researcher Grant can be affiliated with an appropriate institution (see 4.5.a for a definition of an ‘appropriate institution’) or can be retired researchers.

 

Grant Activity Timeframe:
  • 7 September 2017 - funding rounds open.
  • 2 November 2017 - funding rounds close.
  • Nov-Dec 2017 - applications are assessed and recommendations made to the delegate.
  • Dec 2017 – delegate approves successful applicants
  • Jan 2018 – applicants notified of the outcome of their applications.
  • Jan-Jun 2018 – funding agreements negotiated with successful applicants.
  • Jul 2018 – grant funded projects commence.
