Description:

The Australia–China Agricultural Cooperation Agreement (ACACA) is a treaty-level agreement signed in 1984 between the Australian and Chinese governments. The ACACA program operates under the agreement.

The ACACA program objectives are to:

  • promote bilateral cooperation in agriculture between Australia and China
  • develop the agricultural trading relationship between Australia and China
  • exchange scientific information to enhance cooperation and develop linkages between Australia and China.

Funding priorities agreed between the Australian and Chinese Governments for 2018 and 2019 are:

  • eCommerce innovation
  • sustainable agricultural technology
  • sanitary and phytosanitary training
  • agricultural products processing
  • commodity production research
  • science and technology cooperation
  • post-harvest storage and waste
  • animal husbandry
  • food safety
  • trade and investment cooperation
  • exploration of niche markets
  • advanced agriculture technologies
  • water in agriculture.

There are two streams of activities:

  • Stream 1—funding to undertake an eligible project in Australia and/or China.

  • Stream 2—funding to cover travel costs for trade missions to China.

All funded activities under both streams must meet program objectives and priorities.

Funds are limited under this program and meeting eligibility or merit criteria does not guarantee funding. Due to the competitive, merit-based process, there may be only one recipient per stream of funding.

Eligibility:

Any individual, organisation or business with a current Australian Business Number (ABN) and able to enter into a legally binding agreement may apply for funding under the ACACA program, including:

  • individuals

  • farm, forestry, aquaculture and seafood enterprises

  • industry groups

  • rural and regional associations

  • education, research and academic institutions

  • Australian, state and local government organisations. These organisations will be subject to the same competitive process as other applicants.

The ACACA program administrator will ensure that each application meets these eligibility requirements:

  • application was received by the due or agreed date

  • applicant has a current Australian Business Number (ABN)

  • applicant is a legal entity capable of entering into a legally binding agreement

  • Stream 1 Project funding applications propose to undertake projects in Australia and/or China only

  • Stream 2 Trade mission funding applications propose to undertake missions to China only.

Only applications that meet these eligibility requirements will have their online applications forwarded to the assessment panel.
