Description:

The Girls in STEM Toolkit grant opportunity will run over four years from 2018-19 to 2021-22. It will support the government's long-term strategic approach to increasing engagement in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), with a strong focus on addressing the underrepresentation of girls and women in STEM at school, university and in the workplace.

The objectives of the grant opportunity are:

  • assist girls to understand the diverse types of careers undertaking STEM education can lead to, including non-technical and non-traditional roles
  • assist girls to match their interests to a range of careers arising from STEM education
  • enable girls to understand study pathways to work towards STEM careers of interest
  • assist parents, teachers, career counsellors and other influencers to effectively explain opportunities in STEM and the types of careers that can arise from STEM education.

There will be a single grant of $580,000 awarded using a restricted competitive process. We will identify organisations to invite following consultation with education stakeholders, based on:

  • relevant experience in developing similar products for school-aged children
  • established links within the education sector.

A restricted competitive process is appropriate for this grant opportunity due to the limited funds available, that a single grant will be awarded, and that a targeted group of potential grantees can be identified based the above.

The successful applicant will develop the toolkit based on evidence of what works to encourage girls to engage with STEM studies and activities. The toolkit will be available across Australia, including in regional and rural areas.
