The Summer Schools for STEM Program operates under the brand name Curious Minds. Funding of $2.35 million[1] to extend and expand Curious Minds over four years from 2020-21 to 2023-24 is provided from the 2018 Women’s Economic Security Package.
This Program will create opportunities through an expansion of the successful Curious Minds program, targeting high-potential female students in Years 9 and 10, through hands-on summer residential schools supported by a mentoring program and follow-up winter schools.
The Program aims to improve the capabilities of high potential female students who have had limited opportunities because of where they live (including regional and remote locations), their socio-economic backgrounds and/or their Indigenous status (the target group), and to increase their participation in STEM studies in future schooling and tertiary education.
The Australian Mathematics Trust is the sole organisation eligible to apply for the funding based on its specialist knowledge, skills and previous experience. If successful, this organisation will receive funding to improve upon and expand the reach of the existing Curious Minds program, which it currently manages.
July 2020 – June 2024
$2,200,000.00
The Program will be undertaken according to the Commonwealth Grants Rules and Guidelines (CGRGs) http://edit.finance.gov.au/sites/default/files/commonwealth-grants-rules-and-guidelines.pdf
These guidelines contain information for the Curious Minds grant. The grant will run from 2020-21 to 2023-24, and be part of Program 1.5 Early Learning and Schools Support.
