Description:

The Council on Australia Latin America Relations (COALAR) was established by the Australian Government in 2001 to enhance Australia’s economic, political and social relations with Latin America. 

The objectives of the Council on Australia Latin America Relations are:

  • Enhanced and strengthened links between Australia and Latin America, particularly in the areas of mutual economic support (encompassing two way trade and investment), education, sustainability and applied research, sport, culture and tourism, aligned closely with the policy of economic diplomacy
  • Closer engagement at a corporate level between Australia and Latin America
  • Increased engagement with and understanding of Australia in Latin America, and of Latin America in Australia and
  • The provision of advice to government about opportunities that will enhance the Australia – Latin America relationship.

The Council concentrates its activities on the following priority areas:

  • Mutual Economic Support (encompassing two way trade and investment);
  • Education, Sustainability and Applied Research and
  • Sport, Arts and Culture and Tourism.

In the 2017-2018 Grant round the Council will consider favourably projects that strengthen relations with priority countries Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru, as well as through the Pacific Alliance.

Public-Private partnerships involving co-funding are also strongly encouraged.

Eligibility:

To be eligible you must:

  • be one of the following entity types: 
    • an Australian entity with an Australian Business Number (ABN) or Australian Company Number (ACN)
    • a consortium with a lead organisation
    • a registered charity or not-for-profit organisation
    • an Australian local government body
    • an Australian State/Territory government body
    • a corporate Commonwealth entity
    • an Australian statutory authority
    • be an Australian or permanent resident of Australia
    • or be a citizen or organisation from the countries stated in Section 2.2. above
    • or be a well-established organisation in a country specified in Section 2.2 of the COALAR 2017 guidelines with a business purpose to advocate for Australian business, education and/or cultural interests
  • and be willing to provide or develop child protection guidelines for your project if it involves people under the age of 18 years.

Applications from consortia are acceptable, provided you have a lead applicant who is the main driver of the project and is eligible as per the list above.

Individuals who intend the grant to be administered by a university should apply on behalf of the university, i.e. your university is the applicant.

Grant Activity Timeframe:

The grant round will close at 2pm (AEST) on 28/3/2017.  Grants will be negotiated in July-August for projects starting before June 2018.

Estimated Grant Value (AUD):

From $20,000.00 to $40,000.00
