Autoimmune Encephalitis - a rare and debilitating neurological illness affecting the Australian population. A study of the Australian Autoimmune Encephalitis Consortium.
Purpose:
Autoimmune encephalitis are a collection of diseases where the immune system incorrectly attacks brain tissue causing inflammation and nerve damage. Individuals with this disease can have seizures, memory, behavioural and mood problems, affecting their quality of life and longevity. This project is the largest of its kind in Australia, bringing national experts to examine this disease with the hope of making improvements in early recognition, diagnosis and treatment of this debilitating condition.
