Study of Neck Injury Imaging in Children (SONIC): Improving the Diagnosis of Spinal Cord, Bone and Ligament Injuries Compared With Current Practice
Purpose:
Neck injuries to spinal cord, bones and ligaments need to be carefully considered in children presenting to emergency departments as missed injuries may have devastating consequences. Clinical decision rules are used to guide which adult patients should receive neck imaging, but no guidance currently exists for children. This study of 30,000 children in emergency departments with possible neck injuries aims to investigate the best way to accurately predict which children require neck imaging.
