Grant Activity:
Building capacity for reef restoration i n the Great Barrier Reef
Purpose:
This project will bring together scientists, marine park managers, tourism industry, ports, conservation and education groups to share knowledge, participate in marine research, participate in reef restoration and test and refine a draft course for Reef restoration in the Great Barrier Reef. We will build on the research and education activities that occur internationally as well as the citizen science activities we facilitated in 2016 and 2017 at this site. We have taught 362 people in 2016–17 and measured high satisfaction, large improvements in knowledge and proposed changes in stewardship. These types of reef restoration courses are popular internationally but are not taught in Australia.
