Grant Activity:
Intelligent BMS for Lithium Ion batterystorage systems in electric vehicles
Purpose:
This Project will develop intelligent lithium ion (Li–ion) battery monitoring and control systems as they apply to automotive applications. Battery technology is a key contributor to the higher costs of electric vehicles (EVs), and developing next generation battery management systems (BMS) is key to reducing total cost of ownership, and enhancing EV market viability. The successful postgraduate candidates will develop a BMS that can address and thermally manage individual large format Li–ion cells to better control battery health and performance, and will use a Formula SAE race car as a test platform for the developed system.
