Grant Activity:
Dare Employment Bootcamp
Purpose:
The Dare Employment Bootcamps are structured to increase the participant's confidence and get them to engage in positive job seeking behaviour. The camp environment fosters a sense of community with all campers sharing duties, eating together and sleeping in large dormitories. Three camps will be held totalling 45 participants with each camp limited to 15 participants aged 25 to 35 to ensure ample time can be dedicated to the needs of each individual. A three–step approach will be taken where the participants are interviewed to assess their suitability, followed by the camp and then an aftercare process of follow up meetings to provide support and reinforce the learnings from the camp. The adventure activities follow our camp philosophy where we encourage the participants to see problems as an opportunity to learn, develop and grow instead of seeing them as a burden or barrier. Changing participant's perception from problem to challenge will influence their attitudes and behaviour. Through challenge, people question their pre–set limitations and self–perceptions and grow in confidence, resilience and optimism. Over the 5–day program participants will be exposed to a range of job finding skills while also participating in confidence building activities. These skills will be delivered by the Job Skills Centre and other industry experts. Trained mental health workers will be on site to assist participants as required to work through any issues that may arise during the camp. The course culminates in a dinner prepared by the course participants for local businesses. Each course is tailored to a specific industry and the local businesses from that industry get a chance to meet the job seekers in a neutral friendly environment.
