Purpose:
The project aim is to create a plan for complete site rehabilitation and undertake works in Big Bend recreation area, located North of Charters Towers along the Burdekin River. This 162 ha area is well known by local and regional community as it offers opportunities for fishing, swimming and camping in a bush natural setting. However it has been degraded due to heavy off road activities and misuse leading to severe gully erosion and weed infestation. The project will rehabilitate major gullied areas by earthwork and revegetation, manage invasive plants notably Praxelis as well as increasing visitor environmental awareness of the site to prevent future degradation and increase visitor enjoyment of the site.
