Purpose:
Functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGID) affect more than 1 in 3 Australians and are a major social and economic burden. Identification and management of FGID is suboptimal with diagnosis and treatment focused purely on patient’s symptoms and not the underlying cause. Our recent work has detected subtle immune and microbiome involvement in FGID and our CRE will create a bio-repository to characterise these factors, leading to improved diagnosis and management approaches for these patients.
