A multi-pronged approach for the development of effective and safe anticoagulants
Purpose:
Thrombosis is the blockage of the circulation with blood clots that prevents essential oxygen and nutrients from reaching the tissues. Thrombotic events are the underlying cause of stroke, heart attack and venous thrombosis that are responsible for 1 in 4 deaths globally. The major option for prevention and treatment is the use of anticoagulants that carry significant safety risks due to bleeding. This program will develop safer anticoagulants for the effective treatment of thrombotic diseases.
