Purpose:
Under the Australian China Science and Research Fund, through the Joint Research Centre, Australian and Chinese researchers will work together to develop cheap, accessible devices that will transform the future of health – for both healthy individuals and those with chronic illness. These new devices, to be released to the market by commercial partners, will measure vital health indicators from saliva, urine, blood and sweat in a simple attachment connected to a smartphone. Ultimately, the outcomes have the potential for economic impact through the wide sale of devices and consumables. However, the health impact is even more exciting, as this digital information can be used to identify early health concerns (for individuals and populations), reduce visits to health professionals and empower healthy choices.
