Grant Activity:
Understanding the role of intraepithelial lymphocytes in intestinal barrier function and development of colorectal cancer.
Purpose:
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the 2nd leading cause of cancer death in Australia and immunotherapy is gaining importance in CRC treatment, but conventional immunotherapy is effective in less than10 percent of patients. We will identify novel molecules specific to immune cells in the colon and elucidate their function so new immunotherapy drugs can be developed to specifically treat CRC. These treatments will improve CRC prognosis and limit dangerous side-effects observed with current immunotherapy treatments.
