PBS Program Name:
DE 19/20 Employment Services
Grant Program:
Regional Employment Trials
Grant Activity:
Empowering Long Term Unemployed into the Regional Workforce
Purpose:
This project will use a variety of maker spaces and other settings including real and simulated work spaces to engage mature aged long term unemployed job seekers, or those at risk of becoming long term unemployed, into pathways to employment trials and sustainable employment. The program seeks to develop the personal, employability, conceptual and practical skills to enable participants to transition to employment readiness. The project's culminating activity is a regional employment trial in locally prominent sectors of agriculture, health and construction. The project is responsive to regional needs, but the project outcomes will also contribute to a sustainable model that is adaptable to other regions across Australia. 15 participants sign on to an activity agreement with the Impact Community Services to commit to the project. There will be 15 participants per program . Two iterations of the project program are to be run between August 2019 and 30 June 2020 (dates subject to funding approval) . Participants will be bound by individual job activity contract requirements to attend project activities. 10 week work trial preparation program x 2 iterations. Activities will occur between 9am and 3pm. 26 days of scheduled activities over each 10 week trial preparation period. Project program is based on scaffolded development, building skills incrementally. Activities will ramp up from 2 days to 4 days per week by week 10 . 3 weeks of work trials for each program iteration 4 days per week. A program facilitator will be engaged for the period of the project, including time before each iteration of the 10 week work trial preparation to assist in finalising the program, and after the actual work trials to report on performance etc. The Program Facilitator will liaise between Impact Community Services, Council, CQU and Regional Employers. A key function of the Program Facilitator will be daily face to face contact with program participants on location.
