Purpose:
This project aims to deliver two three day, VET certified, shearing and wool handling training programs aimed at 60 jobseekers and early school leavers in the Northern Inland region of New South Wales. The project will generate awareness of the career opportunities available in the wool industry and provide training opportunities that match business needs, leading to meaningful employment for program participants. The project will build upon the Wool Works Shearing School Initiative trial held at the Glen Innes Agricultural Research and Advisory Station (GIARAS) in 2017, developed in response to the Glen Innes Wool Production, Harvesting and Skills Training Centre Project Report commissioned by Regional Development Australia – Northern Inland (RDANI) which identified upcoming skilled labour shortages in the wool industry in the face of changing markets, industry compositions and climate change.
