Grant Program:
2018 Priority-driven Collaborative Cancer Research Scheme
Grant Activity:
Improving tumour targeting and delineation in lung cancer radiotherapy
Purpose:
The success of modern lung cancer radiotherapy relies on four-dimensional computed tomography (4DCT) scans to account for breathing-induced tumour motion. Currently, 90% of 4DCT scans suffer severe image errors that limit the treatment accuracy and reduce the chance of tumour control by up to one third. This project will translate high accuracy, real-time adaptive 4DCT from a software prototype to clinical reality, enabling more accurate treatments and better outcomes for up to 5,000 Australians/year.
