Grant Activity:
Unravelling amygdala-hippocampus neural circuitry of anxiety: Role of adult-born neurons
Purpose:

The addition of new neurons is a major regulator of brain function and plasticity, and is well understood in the hippocampus. We have discovered that new neurons are also generated in the amygdala, a region that processes emotional memories. Using animal models in which we can identify and manipulate adult-born neurons in these two regions, we will assess their contribution to the neural circuitry of the brain and their role in the pathogenesis and treatment of anxiety-related disorders.
