Grant Program:
Science for Australia's Future – Inspiring Australia
Grant Activity:
Building bridges between schools and universities for STEM learning.
Purpose:
Stimulating students interest in STEM is both an art and a science, as such it is proposed to run an initiative where, Sydney University in partnership with Rousehill Anglican College (RHAC) will run a series of outreach programs for students from RHAC. The format includes (a) guest lectures and mentorship by eminent scientists (b) virtual visits by mathematics research scholars to RHAC classrooms; and (c) day trips to Spectacular Science at University of Sydney, where students will work in a laboratory and use equipment that is not available in a high school lab. It is hypothesised that this initiative will have a tangible outcome, and lead to an increase in youth pursuing a career in science and technology.
